Start TB if it is on your roster. FCT's weekly forecast has TB at 9.78 forecast points for Week 2. PHI, SF, BAL and SEA complete the elite rank band on the remaining board. Check those options first; a projection is an estimate, not a safe floor.
Correction: We have replaced the custom points calculation with the existing weekly forecast and corrected the season used for recent results. The rankings and recommendations below have been revised. This update covers the remaining games; Buffalo and Detroit are excluded after Thursday kickoff.
Wording update, September 18: The middle rank band and shortlist now use “conditional” and “conditional starts” to describe weekly lineup value without implying waiver availability. Forecasts and ranks are unchanged.
HOU and DEN are conditional starts this week. We would not give either an automatic start on reputation after its rough opener. Look for a credible path to sacks and takeaways before committing the lineup spot.
How the FCT DST algorithm works
Projected points come directly from FCT's current-week forecast feed, sourced from Sleeper, using standard DST scoring. Rank follows that forecast in descending order, with FCT risk used to break exact ties. Matchup analysis does not add a bonus to the forecast. Season-long projected averages are no longer the starting point for these weekly points.
FCT keeps its matchup analysis alongside the forecast. Opponent implied total, spread, pressure opportunities, home or away setting, weather and availability help explain the game environment. The trench data covers 2025; it cannot establish current offensive-line or defensive-front form.
Recent defensive results and opponent D/ST points allowed use completed games from the current season. The Week 2 opponent sample is one game. That can inform a caution, but it cannot establish a reliable trend.
Tier and matchup grade answer different questions. The elite band covers the top five, followed by the strong, conditional and avoid bands shown below. A grade describes FCT's opponent assessment. A favorable matchup still needs sacks and takeaways to become a useful fantasy result.
DST chart
Use this Week 2 chart as the starting point for your lineup decision. Projected points are forecasts, not completed results. Look first at the elite and strong bands. Check league scoring before treating a small forecast gap as decisive.

HOU is ranked 13 with a 6.93-point forecast. DEN is ranked 14 with a 6.90-point forecast. Both have a C matchup grade. Both are conditional choices this week. We would keep a strong-tier option rather than switch to either and hope for sacks or takeaways.
Conditional starts
These defenses need a closer matchup check before entering your lineup. Compare them with your other options using the full chart. CHI sits in the strong band, above this conditional group.
The shortlist takes defenses from the conditional rank band and excludes D matchup grades. The label describes weekly lineup value and does not imply waiver availability. HOU and DEN head this limited group by forecast, but we would use either only after checking the earlier options on the full board.
| DST | Matchup | Projected Fantasy Points | Risk | Lineup Case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HOU | vs.CIN | 6.93 | low | Use conditionally; do not treat the C matchup as an automatic start. |
| DEN | vs.JAX | 6.90 | low | Use conditionally; a C matchup leaves room to seek an alternative. |
| ATL | vs.CAR | 6.68 | moderate | Consider when accepting a C matchup and moderate risk. |
| CIN | atHOU | 6.04 | moderate | Use as a fallback when the earlier options are unavailable. |
| PIT | atNE | 5.76 | moderate | Use as a fallback when the earlier options are unavailable. |
| NYJ | vs.GB | 4.91 | moderate | Consider only if the earlier options are unavailable. |
Risk is an FCT context label, not a calibrated probability of a bad fantasy result. A low risk label does not turn a C matchup into a safe start. Keep that distinction in mind for HOU and DEN.
How to use the score
The ranking score now equals the weekly forecast. Use matchup context to examine the pressure path in a close choice.
Sacks and takeaways can swing a DST result, while points allowed can undo that production. Before lineup lock, check the final injury report and weather for the games you are considering. Revisit the choice if either changes the pressure path.
Our lineup rule: prioritize elite and strong options, keep HOU and DEN conditional, and compare the forecast and matchup risks with your other lineup choices. A lower weekly tier is a starting-value assessment, regardless of whether you drafted the defense or added it later.
